Rep. Joe Wilson, the same Republican who insulted President Obama during the health care speech, is now insulting our troops.
House member Jack Kingston has introduced a modest bill in congress, HR 5958, which would allow all servicemembers to drink beer and wine at on-base restaurants, clubs, etc. Currently, only servicemembers older than 21 are shown such decency.
With all the "support our troops" rhetoric the Republicans lay out, you would think it would be a slamdunk to get everyone on board, recognizing that anyone old enough to die in combat is old enough to celebrate survival with a beer. But Joe Wilson is leading the charge against our troops.
Wilson says this proposal would hurt us because it would lead to alcohol abuse in the military. In other words, Wilson says the men and women we trust to disarm roadside bombs can't be trusted to drink responsibly.
With all due respect, Joe, you lie. The people being sacrificed in these idiotic wars deserve better. Every dinner they eat could be their last meal. If a soldier wants a glass of beer, who is Joe Wilson to say no?
