You might have heard about his Holiness the Blessed Ratty's taxpayer-paid state visit to Britain and the controversy it has caused.
I just need to get off my chest how fucking pissed off I am at the remarkably uncritical reception he's received, especially after his comments yesterday drawing a parallel between atheism and the Nazis.
Those comments have been dwelled upon somewhat by the media, but for the most the TV networks have preferred to show him surrounded by the supposed adoring masses, and show the image of him kissing a baby, as though that somehow makes up for all the hateful bile he spouts, as well as the anti-condom dogma he spouts that is literally killing people all across the Third World.
Those of us opposed to the visit have been sancitimoniously lectured to by much of the media, even in papers like the Guardian that you'd think you could rely on to take a clear stand against the likes of Ratty.
We've been called anti-Catholic bigots, which I especially resent given I come from a most Irish Catholic background, and then that tiresome cliche "militant atheist".
I find it bewildering that some would consider this man someone to look up to, someone who is infallible no matter how much dogma and hate he spouts, and for the media to pompously pontificate that speaking out against this shite makes you some sort of bigot.
Sorry that this isn't a particularly substantive diary, but I've just come back the pub after several pints of Guinness and I need to get this off my chest.
