Former Republican New York Senator Al D'Amato let loose with a string of profanities as he blasted Republican strategist Jack Burkman on the FOX Business Nutwork for his comments about Africans.
I've never been much of a fan of Alfonse D'Amato, nor have I ever cared for his political leanings, but I have to give him a big standing ovation for standing up to the Republican racism that has become such a huge part of his party.
The blowup came during a panel discussion on Thursday's edition of FOX Business Nutwork's "Money Rocks" about whether or not to privatize the U.S. Postal Service. Though all of the guests appeared to agree about the issue up for dicussion, several panel members took offense at the overtly racist comments of Republican strategist Jack Burkman.
Burkman began the discussion by saying, "most of these guys working in the Post Office should be driving cabs, and I think we should stop importing labor from Nigeria and Ethiopia. That's their "skill level."
D'Amato began his response by criticizing Burkman, saying, "Jack would've done well without all the name calling."
Tamara Holder, an attorney who was also a panelist on the show, jumped in and declared: "Making all these somewhat racist statements about Nigeria is a spinning of sorts...this has to do with government waste."
Burkman interupted and tried to defend himself: "Most people employed by the United States Post Office...are thoroughly unskilled labor."
This angered D'Amato further, and he unloaded a very welcome as well as an angry tirade directed straight at Burkman...
"You are a nasty racist..that's a bunch of bullshit and you should be ashamed of yourself and have your mouth washed out."
When Burkman tried to cut in, D'Amato shot him down: "Wait a minute...shut up. I listened to your racist bullshit."
D'Amato lashes into Burkman at about 5:00 minutes into the discussion:
Bravo Sen. D'Amato!
Now can somebody...anybody, please inform the racist Burkman that Nigerians are not "imported" into the United States and that the days of importing "slaves" ended about 150 years ago. They leave their country because of poor working conditions, largely brought about by the United States support and/or protection of dictators and despots who are also supported by big oil companies and Halliburton.
Additionally, racism aside, presently everyone pays the same rate to mail a letter or package anywhere in the country. The rest of the speakers failed to acknowledgment that the USPS is mandated by law to carry all mail, not just the most profitable If the postal service is privatized, would people in remote and hard to reach places or those who only have a PO box like our military and civilian service personnel overseas who get their mail through an APO or FPO address, still have the same availability and rates for their mail service? The USPS doesn't have the option to ignore the part of the business that doesn't have a high mark-up. They don't have the ability to say that the mail that 'we aren't making a profit on, .. we won't deliver'. That's the law!
A little history of Jack Burkman: Lobbyist for Family Research Council, Caring To Love Ministries and America's Heroes Of Freedom. Family Values proponent who was on the DC Madam's phone list and solicited two young ladies to come to a hotel room and have sex with him for money.
