When I saw the background the GOP decided to use to introduce their "brand new" 21 page bridge to nowhere, the one they called "Pledge to America" I just started laughing. So we went from a contract in '94 to a pledge in 2010?
Looks like desperate times require desperate measures. And republicans, as usual, ARE very desperate (for non-lobbyists, non-bankers, non-insurance exec... a.k.a regular americans to like them.)
This thing is so easy to pick apart is unbelievable to me that Democrats haven't run an ad on it yet, republicans committed the quintessential sin of politics, when you are ahead ACT like you are ahead.
The pledge is a desperate attempt to show Americans republicans can be for something, but it has so many holes kinda like swiss cheese.
Seriously they wanna reduce the size of government by cutting spending on entitlements and give tax cuts to the rich by extending the Bush tax cuts and then give more tax cuts to the rich on top of that, it protects corporations over the interests of the people a.k.a the country as a whole.
Lets not even talk about repealing HCR, thats just insane to take away one of the few lifelines the government gives to people is just a recipe for disaster, specially during hard economic times, and it would add to the deficit, just like everything else in the pledge.
In summary the GOP Pledge DOUBLES DOWN on the FAILED policies that brought our economy to the edge of the abyss and it makes a mockery of the real hard and though issues we face as a country like high unemployment and smaller paychecks.
I really was hoping for a serious document (snark), even the crazy tea baggers don't like it, in a sign of TRUE bipartisanship, and although NRO is going "gaga" for the pledge, THE TRUTH IS NO ONE LIKES THE GOP's PLEDGE. Maybe they are not as crazy as we think and they are and not as STUPID as the GOP hoped they were.
The democrats need to exploit the Pledge for political purposes, as with anything the GOP does this is a gift that keeps on giving, remember the old saying divide and conquer, democrats need to hang the pledge around the necks of every republican running for office. See how they like the smell of fresh pile of dung.
Just like republicans demagogue healthcare the pledge is just ripe for abuse the only difference is democrats would be telling the truth about it to really SCARE people.
Also don't only look at what this pledge says but also what it does not say, this is truly amazing (Source: MotherJones.com):

Democrats should make an ad about this, seriously just put a downward text scroller and call it "GOPLEDGIORITIES" (GOP + Pledge + Priorities) and let America knows the GOP is only in it for themselves and their buddies.
