It might seem like ages ago, but it was only this spring that our country was all up in arms about health care reform. With all the shoutin' and fightin', it was hard to figure out what was goin' on. But you know what? All I want is some simple, common sense reform, the kind that puts us, the people, back in charge of our own health. A simple, eight-point plan like this:
- Your insurance company can't take away your insurance just because you got sick.
- They can't take away your insurance just because you missed one line in the whole application packet.
- They can't set a limit to your insurance or take it away while you're still getting treatment.
- They can't keep you from getting insurance just because you've been sick before.
- They can't force you to miss cancer-screening procedures because of a high co-pay.
- They can't do any of this to your children, either.
- They can't take away your insurance because you graduated, so now your "kids" can take that entry-level job and work their way up the ladder.
- Basically, they can't pretend like they don't know you at the moment when you demand the services you've been paying for.
Does all that sound good? Is that real health care reform that you could vote for?
Well, guess what--- we've already got it. Obama's "big, bad" healthcare reform bill includes all these new rules, and they came into effect this very week. Instead of us getting the limits, now it's the insurance companies' turn. If they don't like it... tough. If they can't handle a little adult supervision, then maybe they don't have what it takes to make it in the insurance business. There are plenty of easier industries they can go work in.
Now you might be wondering why you never heard about all this. Well, the funny thing is, the media never really talked about what was in the bill... because it was stuff like this. Stuff that keeps insurance companies from screwing their customers. I won't read anyone's mind and guess why they ignored all these things, but they did. That's why you never heard of it.
So, let's celebrate! Finally, the government is looking out for us. But don't set off the fireworkds just yet... we've got these beautiful rules, but they're not safe. The Republicans have promised to repeal this if they take over Congress this November. They want us to go back to the "good ol' days," when the insurance companies held us hostage to our own health. So if you think this is good, common-sense reform, don't vote for your local Republican for Congress. But do check out your local Democrat; they might just support this bill (Remember, the media won't tell you.)
And please, pass this note along to your friends, lovers, children, and enemies. They might like to know the truth, too.
