There is clearly a concerted strategy going on coming out of the White House to attack unenthusiastic Democrats ahead of the election vs actually doing something substantive to motivate them. They have chose the path of least resistance becase -- frankly -- that's how this White House rolls.
The only "tough" decision they ever made was to keep pushing health care for a year. But, even that is an exception to the above rule because at one point in the process -- the "tough" but correct decision was to probably shelve health care in favor of pushing more economic stimulus and job creation. So, the President took the "easy" path of passing a watered-down piece of crap health "reform" bill that the majority of Americans don't like -- just so he could claim he finally passed "health care reform.
So, now we have the Vice President telling us to "stop whining." And the President is telling us that not being enthusiastic to vote and give money to the Democratic party is "inexcusable" and "irresponsible," instead of the President and Congressional Democrats GETTING UP OFF THEIR FUCKING ASSES AND DOING SOMETHING SUBSTANTIVE TO MOTIVATE VOTERS!
The Democrats' inability to even put middle class tax cuts UP FOR A VOTE before the election is the latest in a long string of humiliations and buzzkills from the governing party. And I use the term "governing" loosely in their case.
The White House is clearly alarmed at the lack of support they are getting from the base. But, I will tell you that even that is misleading. I don't think they are worried that you won't show up and vote. I think they are scared shitless because donations to the party are tanking and people on the phone are chewing out the campaign committees and the DNC. They are desperate.
As Atrios constantly points out to these assholes -- WE are not the voters you should be concerned about. It's the part time, barely engaged voters who are turned off by your inaction in Washington on the economy and passage of a huge new requirement to force them to pay for shitty private health insurance they don't want.
Stop lecturing -- nay WHINING about -- us and DO SOMETHING to EARN our support.
ADDENDUM: Some may know that Harry Truman famously said in his 1948 nomination acceptance speech that farmers and laborers, etc who didn't support the Democrats were the most ungrateful folks who ever lived. But, in Truman's case, he had a legitimate point to make.
The Democratic party saved the country from both the Great Depression and in World War II. So, his complaint was justified by the legitimate substantive actions -- numerous ones -- the party had taken to help famers and laborers. In Obama and Biden's case -- where's the beef? I have pointed out (in other diaries) why health care "reform" is not the great achievement many here make it out to be. But, even if it were, the voters certainly don't think so.
Moreover, the criticism of this diary are (not surprisingly) wrongheaded and misplaced straw man whining for the most part. I am not going to sit home on election day. I am going to vote. But, what I am not going to do is send money to the DNC or the congressional campaign committees so they can blow it on electing Blue Dog conservadem assholes.
