“Where in the district is John Mica?” is the question that lingers as Heather Beaven travels her district speaking to voters.
While most District 7 voters do know his name, after 18 years in Washington, it’s likely they also know Mica's voting record. And that may be why John Mica has been avoiding the district and avoiding debating Heather. Today, Heather reissued her call for an open debate:
I believe that the people of the 7th District deserve some straight answers before Election Day. So, once again I say to John Mica:
Anytime. Anywhere. Any way.
Let's talk about the issues and not hide from them. The 7th District shouldn't have to go searching high and low to get answers or face time from their Congressman. Let’s debate in the district. You pick the time and place and I’ll be there. Period.
Voters have countless questions for their Congressman; they deserve face time with their elected officials as well as open debates before they cast their votes. Yet voters here can’t seem to find their Congressman these days. “Where in the district is John Mica?” Heather has been asking these questions too, and a whole lot more.
Is John Mica working to create jobs for out of work Americans? NO.
Is John Mica in our school districts, making sure that students have the resources they need to learn and go on to college? NO.
Is John Mica in the Gulf and on our beaches, making sure that BP and the Oil Industry are working to clean up the environmental mess and help put folks back to work? NO.
Is John Mica in the Capitol, fighting to ensure that veterans receive the benefits, financial support and recognition they deserve? NO.
Help elect a candidate who will!
In fact, Heather has already been attending forums all around the district and will continue to do so whether John Mica agrees to show up or not. Recently, Heather has debated an empty chair at:
- Orlando Realtor Association and Central Florida Veterans Forum (Orlando, July 26)
- Children’s Home Society of Florida Forum (Winter Park, September 13)
- Moultrie Oaks Retirement Park Forum (St. Johns County, September 18)
- Daytona State College Candidate Day (Daytona Beach, September 22)
We can elect more self-servants like John Mica and continue to get stuck with “more of the same,” or we can use our votes this year to demand better.
The least we can do is have an open, televised debate about the issues that affect District 7 and its voters. If you agree, send a little change to Heather so she can keep pushing her message out!
P.S. If you have not been able to catch me at an event in your area, please see Heather's latest speech here.
