Guess they didn't even want to learn our ways.
The total energy demand in fiscal 2006 in Vietnam was equivalent to 30 million tons of petroleum. By energy types, 46% was for biomass, 23% for petroleum, 17% for coal, 10% for natural gas, and 4% for hydraulic power...
Presumably "hydraulic power" is hydro.
In Vietnam, they are exactly practicing a "low-carbon society."
Apparently there are no chapters of the Sierra Club to show them how wrong they are doing things.
While Southeast Asia is making great strides in going green, even Genghis Khan's old realm is being invaded by greenies:
Icelandic-Chines partners, Enex China and Sinopec Star Petroleium sign cooperation agreement on geothermal development in Inner Mongolia, with an emphasis on district heating, greenhouses and geothermal power generation.
In a release today by Geysir Green Energy the majority owner of Enex China, the company reports that "the President of Iceland, Mr. Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson was present at the signing ceremony of the geothermal development cooperation agreement at the Residence of the Icelandic Ambassador to China Mrs. Kristin Arnadottir in Beijing.
Geysir Green Energy abandoned its stake in geothermal power in the U.S. but has increased its efforts in China. Obviously this was not uncconnected with the economic meltdown but even before that the hostility of Americans to geothermal power was noted.
Meantime a Canadian geothermal start-up has invaded Iceland, much to the distress of Icelanders.
Maybe one day Vietnam can help us out with our high carbon foolishness. We do have some ties.
Best, Terry
