This has been bugging me for some time. I come to Daily Kos and what do I see? Mike Pence saying "Let's give them a November they'll never forget", links inviting me to Websites of GOP candidates trying to unseat good Democrats in Oregon and other states, and today a link to a site promoting the Arizona anti-immigrant law, complete with an unflattering photo of our president. Am I the only one who has a problem with this? I realize that these are paid advertisements, but I thought we were a community that didn't believe in the rule of money.
Seriously, for a site with the goal of electing more and better Democrats, it seems bizarre to be helping spread right-wing talking points and giving aid to GOP candidates. It seems damned hypocritical, when any suggestion that there may be a case for voting for someone other than a Democrat is enough to get you HR'd.
It's true that you can get a subscription to DKOS that keeps you from seeing those ads. This does not prevent the site from being a conduit to the right for most users. It really seems like DKOS is working against its own stated goals.
Furthermore, the advertisements are not even labeled as such. A very casual, unsophisticated user might get the impression that these right-wing candidates and causes are actually supported by the community. Do we need to risk giving these asshats more credibility, not to mention facilitating their fundraising?
I think Markos and the site administrators really need to take a long, hard look at their policy of accepting advertisements from anybody, including the worst reactionary scum in the country who are threatening to take over our congress and turning our country into a total plutocracy.
