Alright, so fuck you.
Fuck you GOP.
More invocations below the fold.
She's 63. A cancer survivor. Luckily, in the 90's, she worked for a global privately-owned company that still has a conscience and is to this day providing her with a health care plan. She found out about it in time to save her life, but that is for another diary.
Anyways, she's 63. She was working for a non-profit for eight years; a non-profit that does the kinds of things that the GOP is constantly saying should be done by charity in the "private sector".
Well these charities are drying up. This is one that has lasted for 25 years. They have always focused on programs that help those to help themselves - the same exact programs that the GOP has been touting for years that are the non-governmental solution to those in need.
Guess what - even the die-hard givers are drying up.
So I could talk about another sob story about how yet another person has bit the dust economically, but I'd rather focus on the concept of the abject failure of charity as a social safety net.
Wouldn't it be better if my mom had a job with a stable government program that provided the services that they do? So that in an economic crisis, when those services are needed the most, that her organization continues to provide those services, as opposed to not only ending said services but also adding a new subscriber to the roll??
Fucking A.
Alright Republicans - if you win this cycle, then guess what. You better fucking fix it. Prove to me that your ideology is the solution. Go ahead. Prove it.
