Yesterday, Marsha Blackburn (mis-)representative to the United States House of Representives from the Seventh District in Tennessee put an announcement on her website boasting that she had been endorsed by The Tennessean, Nashville's major dialy newspaper. Here is the screenshot from her website. Now this would be a thing worth boasting about, except...
Follow me down during the drumroll...
Marsha was not endorsed by The Tennessean.
The paper's actual endorsement went to Dr. Greg Rabidoux our terrific Democratic candidate.
The Tennessean endorses Greg Rabidoux in the Seventh Congressional District.
He would focus on bringing greater assistance to the district, especially in rural areas, and to small businesses. He would fight for investment in infrastructure — roads, bridges, telecommunications — and clean and alternative, renewable energies.
Oops!
Of course, Marsha and the truth have never been close friends. In fact, she was just named "one of the most corrupt 26 members of Congress."
Less than a month before midterm elections, the Washington-based watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington has named U.S. Rep. Marsha Blackburn to its list of the 26 "most corrupt" members of Congress.
As we say in TN-07, "Marsha, Marsha, Marsha."
[Update] As the discussion in the comments indicates, The Tennessean does create a confusing situation by posting endorsements from other newspapers on its website as editorials, without clearly indicating the source. This endorsement came from another, smaller newspaper. It is likely that the staffer(s) scouring the internet and posting stuff on her website got confused. However, The Tennesean, the largest newspaper in the district, had endorsed Rabidoux just last week. How could the staff not know that their opponent had already gotten this endorsement - complete cluelessness?
