While watching a bunch of pre-election smear commercials sponsored by anonymous organizations looked at me and said,
"WTF were the Supreme Court thinking? Didn't they know this would happen?"
He gets it. I didn't tell him. He listens to NPR, but he also listens to a fair amount of right-wing radio.
This is a man who, before he met me, rarely voted. He dislikes the entire political process and feels it's hopelessly corrupt. So why bother?
"How do they sleep at night? Don't they feel ashamed?" He asked, honestly puzzled as to why the Supreme Court sold us all out to multi-national corporations.
"They sleep exceptionally well, on large piles of money" I quipped. Seriously, I explained how Justices are golfing and hunting buddies of CEOs and political bigwigs. They probably rest very well, believing that since they've done justice for their buddies, it will be justice for everybody else as well.
"You're too charitable," he replied. "They're all on the take."
My husband is a very good, honest man. He recognizes a scam when he sees one.
And these ads aren't fooling him. They can use spooky music and whine about taxes all they want. It's a scam and he knows it.
I can only hope for the rest of the country.
