I imagine that most people have a particular place that they like to go to and spend time alone. Most such places possess some aspect of beauty that can calm the mind and refresh the spirit. I suppose that church is such a place for many people. Myself, I prefer a natural setting.
Not long after I moved to my particular corner of the U. S., I discovered a very beautiful spot. I have always managed to visit this place every summer since moving to the area, though in some years I can manage to get there only once or twice. I will share some photos of this place with you, though I will not disclose its location. If I did, it wouldn't be a secret anymore, now would it?
First, a word from our sponsor:
Many powerful and pithy diaries are published every day here on Daily Kos. The Top Comments diary series reviews the best comments of the day, where "best" can mean most recommended, most knowledgeable, most passionate, most appropriate in context, or just plain most funny. Any kossack can nominate a comment or three for Top Comments. All one has to do is send an e-mail with link(s) to the comment(s) to topcomments-[at]-gmail-[dot]-com. even if you don't nominate, stop by anyway because you never know when someone else has nominated one of your comments! Then stick around awhile and chat!
I will, at least, tell you that this place is a gorge within an hour's drive of where I live, and that it is only very lightly visited. But I'll say no more than that. Here are the photos:
And now, on to Top Comments!
From mdmslle:
filby made this comment in response to a famous, but common candidate name in this comment by OLinda, in Joan McCarter's front page storyO-Gov: Colorado GOP ready to cut off nose to spite face.
If that weren't enough, smileycreek provides us with an all-knowing flowchart. (From the Late afternoon/early evening open thread posted by Barbara Morrell.
From carolita:
JeckyllnHyde is on fire in Bob Johnson"s scaredy-cat diary. First, he skewers Sharrrrrron Angle before jumping into an hilarious thread started by MikeTheLiberal with his own special brand of Halloween humor.
From trashablanca:
Meteor Blades gives the soundest ever advice about blogging in Frankenoid's excellent diary about voting in the Square State. I figure everybody here can hit parent to figure out context, right?
In a largely overlooked, but important diary by Solomon Drek, about another corrupt republican getting arrested, wilder5121 posts a link to a website called Republican Offenders. This is essential if you have Wingnut relatives, friends or coworkers, because if they were better informed, they wouldn't be Republican!
From jlms qkw:
I know I'm rather hard to entertain these days, but this was the first thing I lol'd at all day. (From RLMiller's diary Stupid Goes Viral: "the John Birch Society was extreme, too.")
From Dallasdoc:
In Robin NWSC’s harrowing diary, Imagine giving birth while shackled to a bedpost, ferallike remembers what life was like before Roe v. Wade.
From sardonyx:
In FishOutofWater's excellent eKos: Return of the Dust Bowl, billlaurelMD reminds us of another feedback factor contributing to drought conditions.
webranding gives strong anecdotal evidence of climate change between the 70s and now.
From your humble diarist:
From the aforementioned diary by Bob Johnson, PvtJarHead started a thread that I thought was pretty funny.
