Jeff Perry. Tea Party pet. GOP candidate and bright hope to take the Massachusetts 10th Congressional District (William Delahunt retiring) against Democrat Bill Keating.

Quick background:

Perry was a police officer, a sergeant. A fellow officer, in Perry's presence, strip searched a 14 year old girl. Perry did nothing, and even backed up his fellow officer's story. The officer lied. Perry lied.

Now Perry wants to be a Congressman.

I've known Bill Keating for years. He was a progressive state senator and he's been the county DA for a few years now. A good DA. He deserves our support regardless of this story. Because of this story he deserves our support even more.

In the victim's own words (from a Keating commercial):

I cannot stand by silently any longer while what happened to me is discussed in the press. It upsets me that Jeff Perry can run for Congress after what he did to me when I was fourteen years old.
Jeff Perry was nearby when Scott Flanagan illegally strip searched me. Perry knew what Flanagan did, he had to hear me screaming and crying. Instead of helping me, Jeff Perry denied anything happened. Even after Scott Flanagan admitted the truth under oath and pled guilty, Perry never apologized for allowing Flanagan to abuse me. Now he has said he would not do anything differently if he had the chance.

Perry did not care about protecting teen-aged girls in Wareham from police officer Flanagan. Jeff Perry cared only about protecting police officer Flanagan.

Chief Joyce now says Jeff Perry was a good cop. Neither Chief Joyce nor Sgt. Perry were good cops. Chief Joyce refused to investigate when my mother complained about what Flanagan did to me. Like Perry, Chief Joyce protected police officer Flanagan instead of protecting teen-aged girls from police officer Flanagan.

Jeff Perry was not an honest police sergeant; he should not be in a position of power.

The State Police investigation;

Perry was about 15 feet away at the time, according to a State Police investigation of the incident.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

and a current resident and voter in Maine who is in Texas temporarily, the one thing that must be done in any race in Massachusetts is to get the unenrolled voters to vote Democratic. Hope they do, in this race.

This race was a lot closer than it should have been, but this is one of the few conservative leaning Republican areas left in Mass. Big for Scott Brown.

This will push Bill over the top (fingers crossed, donations made, signs...). FiveThirtyEight.com has him at 91% chance of winning.

The better news is that the pathetic dismissive no compassion whatsoever response from Gov candidate Charlie Baker will likely doom him as well. BlueMass has the great tape of him answering  a question about this. For someone seeking public office, and is a father for chrissakes, it is beneath contempt.

I am so homesick for the Commonwealth it is not even funny. But I DID get to vote (absentee) against Paul LePage in Maine, which was very gratifying, and for my friend Chellie Pingree, who is a near neighbor (the family is from Vinalhaven, in Knox County, not too far from where I live.)

why wasn't there an investigation on this guy?

Not being elected to office should be the least of this guys worries.  I can't believe he was allowed to resign with no consequences for his actions.

Lisa Allen said that the former Chief, Thomas A. Joyce, was part of the cover-up:

In her statement, Allen also criticized former Wareham police chief Thomas A. Joyce, who recently recorded a television ad endorsing Perry. She accused the former chief of also being complicit in covering up the strip search.

“Chief Joyce now says Jeff Perry was a good cop,’’ Allen said. “Neither Chief Joyce nor Sergeant Perry were good cops. Chief Joyce refused to investigate when my mother complained about what Flanagan did to me. Like Perry, Chief Joyce protected police officer Flanagan instead of protecting teenaged girls from police officer Flanagan.’’

Joyce did not respond to requests for comment.

  •  This story is making me sick (4+ / 0-)

I just sent an email to Scott Brown asking him how he can endorse Jeff Perry.
It's likely that there are some voters out there who were supporting Perry that have changed their mind after reading the victim's statement (mainly women), but I can tell you, there are still plenty of Perry lawn signs in my neighborhood.
It's truly making me ill that, not only did I get Scott Brown foisted on me this year, but potentially now this creep Pervy.
Hoping to do some canvassing tomorrow for Keating. Living on the South Shore is beautiful, but man, politically? it's UGLY.

We definitely cannot have pedophiles in Congress. It's sad that Feingold is allowing a pedophile stay competitive by not pointing this out.

It is shocking that people can still favor a person after hearing this news. Outrageous. And I also believe that anyone that votes for this pedophile is aiding.
