I slept in this Saturday and took my time eating breakfast and getting ready in the morning. Nothing like recharging after a week of work. At lunchtime, I went out to pick up some groceries and, since I was in the area, decided to browse the bookstore.
I was not prepared at all for the display of hatred I was to witness as I walking toward the Barnes and Noble...
I am fortunate to live in Encinitas, CA, a small coastal town about 25 miles north of San Diego, known mostly for its beautiful beaches and the easygoing, active lifestyle of its inhabitants. It is a world renown surf spot, the birthplace of american yoga, a supposed "hippie haven", and generally a liberal bastion in otherwise conservative San Diego. Although we are part of CA-50 with the despicable Brian Bilbray as our representative, I had always figured this fact was due mostly to sharing our district with more conservative areas such as Carslbad. Maybe so, but apparently we aren't free from phenomenon of mass hatred, dressed up as a political movement, that is sweeping the country.
As I approached the bookstore from afar, I saw a political booth set up at a major intersection inside one of our busiest shopping areas. As I approached, I noticed two middle aged women surrounded by large posterboards depicting Barack Obama, the 44th President of the United States of America, in the likeness of Adolf Hitler with his distinctive toothbrush mustache.
I present the following photographs purely to serve as a reminder of what we are fighting against in this election.
What a lovely presence outside our neighborhood bookstore.
The twenty-fifth amendment governs presidential succession in the case of death or inability to carry out the duty of president. I hope they are not suggesting...
They appear to be funded by the LaRouchePAC. I've only looked at it briefly and noticed that it seems to be full of crazy shit. Anyone else know more?
Anyone know what NAWAPA is?
Well, there's the ugly truth. This is what we're fighting against. This is not an opposition that holds rational positions, that can be tolerated to hold power, or that can be negotiated with to form compromises. When climate change denial is taken as the standard party line, when prominent senatorial candidates want to abolish public schools or deny women the right to choose even in cases of rape or incest or "eliminate the Departments of Agriculture, Education, Interior, Housing and Urban Development, Transportation, Energy and others to return to a 'constitutionally pure' government," there can be no compromise. Finally, when they set up shop in the middle of our neighborhoods and compare our President to the worst tyrant and murderer in history, a man that hundreds of thousands of American troops sacrificed their lives to defeat, there can obviously be no compromise.
This is what we're up against. This is what we must defeat. I admit that I was slow to move into action mode during this campaign season. I gave money, sure, in equal amount to 2008, but I had not volunteered my time in great amounts yet.
That has changed. Having seen the nature of the beast, I will bust my ass in GOTV operations to make sure I do everything in my power over the next 10 days to stop those who would defame our country, our president, and poison our public sphere. Blessings to the rest of you who realized the truth long ago. I will now join you in GOTV, and I hope that others will as well. The stakes are too high to let this radical fringe take over our government.
