Anyone got a favorite Movie... or a terrible one you love 2 HATE
My netflix queue is getting kinda short, so please share your recommendations.
(Cheers) to the film maker who goes out of his way to make sure guns, costumes and sets are appropriate to a particular locale or period, or b/c a firearm is used to advance the plot or the way guns are handled by the actors
Anti War & Gun hating movies are welcome too. We are the Democratic Party after all !
This is the Monday diary in our second Week of RKBA.
RKBA is a DKos group of second amendment supporters who also have progressive and liberal values. We don't think that being a liberal means one has to be anti-gun. Some of us are extreme in our second amendment views (no licensing, no restrictions on small arms) and some of us are more moderate (licensing, restrictions on small arms.) Moderate or extreme, we hold one common belief: more gun control equals lost elections. We don't want a repeat of 1994. We are an inclusive group: if you see the Second Amendment as safeguarding our right to keep and bear arms individually, then come join us in our conversation. If you are against the right to keep and bear arms, come join our conversation. We look forward to seeing you, as long as you engage in a civil discussion.
RKBA stands for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.
Parts of this Diary is kinda borrowed plagiarized from a 2006 Guns & Ammo magazine piece titled "My Top Ten Favorite Guns Movies"... or something like that... I only cut out/saved part of the article. Unfortunately I don't have the authors name. If you can find a link I'd be happy to give more better credit where due.
Reading about Guns has given me a much greater appreciation of the sacrifices our troops & LEO make. Growing up, i never liked John Wayne, I associated him w/ Nixon, supporting conservatives & the Vietnam War.
Then I saw "The Making of John Waynes, THE ALAMO." (available as part of the Extras on the (ALAMO) DVD)
If you've seen the Flim, read the book
explains how the Duke spent 14 years preparing for this film and an equal number of years working to pay the expenses this movie cost him PERSONALLY. He believed in this project so much that he risked EVERYTHING putting it on film....sparing NO EXPENSE...in time, effort and money.
The guy loved life & was sincere in his beliefs. The Movie was a box office flop.
How many self hating phony's are we exposed to today?
We grew up/camped out in 'John Ford' country (the 4 corner states) Books & Movies were almost like a religion in my family. My Grandfather took my Dad & Uncle (as kids) to the cinema twice a week. What would dating be like w/o the movies? I've fallen in love more than once when we both burst out laughing, inappropriately at the 'wrong' time.
Occasionally commentators will argue that Violence is never a solution to violence, 2 wrongs don't make a it right.
In anticipation of the Trolls killjoys criticizing this Diary for glamorizing - violence I have to include a tribute to Marlene Dietrich.
She advocated the "Give war a chance" perspective.
one of the most remarkable actresses of the 20th century
- She did not go in for national politics but was fiercely anti-fascist and pro-American.
- She had no interest in gender politics but her androgyny contributed to her glamorous myth and became its essential part. Being an alluring woman, she would dress up like a man and have publicly known affairs with women.
- She looked like a heavenly prima donna but during WW2 she worked on the front in Northern Africa and Europe entertaining American troops and helping in hospitals for which the United States, the French and the Israeli governments awarded her medals.
- She had terrific legs but wore trousers wherever she appeared.
- She had a career after 40 but became a legend long before her death.
- She was born in Germany, but lived her life as an American citizen.
Incredibly intelligent, Marlene Dietrich made very few arguments about what she was for but she let her actions speak for her..... It is unpardonable to call Marlene Dietrich just a star. She was and still is a cultural symbol .....one of the greatest women of our century
Jamie Lee Curtis narrates this documentary about Marlene
This documentary's focus on the life of Marlene Dietrich and less on her films, which are treated as being almost peripheral--simply her job. Marlene's participation in WWII is lingered on, and we come to see how she was impacted forever afterwards by her experiences entertaining the troops at the front line. This is a fitting tribute to a beautiful, elegant star who had the moral courage to speak out and to side with the Allies, even though it alienated her from her homeland.
....became a TRUE American, performing on the frontlines throughout WWII. She denounced her country for the sake of ours..... a tribute to a brave, and brazen woman who, though she can't really sing, had the gams and guts to support "her boys."... No one in Hollywood (or the world) had a story like Dietrich's. I found myself tearing up several times when Dietrich reunited with her Mother (who was in Berlin) after the war, or when the housewives of a liberated German city pooled their meager pantries to bake Dietrich a cake after she entered free Germany, or when she received the Medal of Freedom.
Quite a contrast to the war profiteering, Carlyle Group owning, bush family "worrying their pretty little minds"
These Movies are about the REALITYs of real Guns. These movies are Celebrated in defiance of the false myths theatre goon addressed in his Diary last week
I'm not familiar w/ most of these 10 movies (featured in the 1`-10 comments) I'm gonna guess at least one of them is reactionary tripe.
Tip / Hide-Rate accordingly
Links & Reviews are mostly from netflix & their members. Gun Nutter specific comments are from the Guns&Ammo article
Hat tip to this past weekends
