Hey all! Senator Dick Durbin was in town yesterday to support Barbara Boxer and he stopped by our local Democratic headquarters for a meet and greet.
Yours truly got a handshake, a signature, a picture and I asked him a question!
This guy told a great story about meeting Senator Durbin and asking him for a photo in 2004. At the time Dick was with a state Senator named Barack Obama. Durbin told the guy that he should get a picture with this young up and comer because someday he'd be a Senator. That offer was declined, now six years later that state Senator has made good.
Here he is signing the book I'm reading right now about Jerry Brown written in 1978. It has a pretty interesting perspective on the then first term governor. One tidbit I like talks about how fundraisers for Brown would never hear from him again. Jerry was so cautious about the appearance of giving favors to fundraisers that some said the best way to never hear from him again was to give Jerry money.
I had the book in my hand as we posed for this picture, Durbin grabbed it from me and turned it around to show the camera. Awesome!
I had an amazing time, I love this part of election season, you can really get access to some top level people. This time two years ago I met Senator Kerry at a rally with Kamala Harris for Senator Obama's Presidential primary.
OK, I'm headed back to work at the San Mateo County Dem office. If you'd like to help with my final fundraising push, I'll match the next $50 to Barbara Boxer through my Actblue Link and I'll match the first $50 that comes in for the other candidates on our list: Alan Grayson, Scott McAdams, Tarryl Clark, Alexi Giannoulias, Kendrick Meek, Anthony Weiner, Justin Coussoule, John Waltz, Jack Conway or Joe Sestak.
No donation is too small; we're accepting donations as small as $1. I talked to the campaign manager for Justin Coussoule today and she said they are buying radio ads for $4, $7 and $11. Every little bit can go a long way.
