For some reason this morning, I was struck with the muse BIG TIME & composed a song - sort of. There is absolutely positively no intention to infringe on OnTheLeftCoast's fine work, but when you're struck, you're struck! :D
When I looked through "this day in history" items, I realized where my muse strike came from. But first, on this date in 2002, Dallas Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith broke the NFL career rushing yardage record of 16,726 held by Walter Payton. Boo Emmitt! I don't care if he can bust a move on the dance floor.
Now, for the musings and for the much - anticipated (I'm sure!) ditty, Sylvia Plath, the American poet known for an intense, confessional quality of writing, was born on this date in 1932. I've seen & intensely examined the part of her collection that are in the Lilly Rare Books Library down at IU, and I will never ever forget the powerful reaction I had in reading the correspondence between her mother & Ted Hughes in the immediate aftermath of her suicide. I nearly retched because the 2 of them were basically fighting over which one of them had the "right" to mourn her more. And, yes, I'm about as intensely as anti - Ted Hughes as one can get. I know Sylvia probably was not the most easy person to live with and be married to; I know this, again, after examining her stuff down at IU. But, Ted, more than anyone, should've realized & understood her life up to that point & treated his "unhappiness" in his marriage differently.
Now, to switch tone in whiplashing proportions, here is my election ditty! With all apologies to the fine people at Sesame Street & their iconic theme song...
"Hypocrisy Street"
(to the tune of Sesame Street)
Money days
keeping the Dems away!
On our way to where
big money sways!
Can you tell me how to get,
How to get to Hypocrisy Street?
Come and pay, or
They'll take your vote away!
GOP loves
Elections done THEIR way.
Can you tell me how to get,
How to get to Hypocrisy Street?
Let's Countdown!
#5 "Taking Control" AKA "Meet the New Boss..." AKA "Money for Something" - At this point, it can be determined via early voting that Hispanic participation is up by 15% over 2006. And, yours truly is going to early vote Friday afternoon; I hope the hazmat suit comes in on time for one of the votes I’ll have to make. ;D HEY! Keith or someone’s been peeking in this diary & stealing my Congressional committee leadership changing hands shtick; I want royalties, dammit! ;D OK, that personally – autographed copy of Pitchforks & Torches will do.
A whole mess of the "gentlemen" who would be chairing various committees have received big ‘ol financial backing from the industries with which those committees would primarily deal. Golly, Normie Coleman’s been financing such ads full of scathing lying they’ve had to be pulled off the air? HA! Reps Small Price to Pay Goldilocks & Cantor already have a list of what cronies they want staffed in their offices should the House go the way of the GOBP next week. The Anti – US Chamber of Commerce want a weakening of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. Gawd bless American, indeed! They’re pushing foreign law to boost their case?! Do "Justices" Scalia & Thomas know about this??!! They are always the first ones to poo – poo anyone even bring up the SUBJECT of foreign law in a SCOTUS oral argument; well, Clarence would if he didn’t just sit there like a bump on a lump. AND, those damn GOBPers on the Senate Judiciary Committee also get all hot & bothered at the prospect of a SCOTUS nominee having any knowledge whatsoever of ferun laws, dang nabbit!
Nick Nyhart’s group worked on this report that unveiled the latest Anti – US Chamber of Commerce shtick & other shenanigans. I don’t imagine too many tea baggers know about all this crap, to answer Keith’s question, because they’re too busy watching FAUX News with their mouths full!
#4 "Head Case" AKA "Blame the Victim" - The KY head stomper wants an apology from the head stompee. Wow, he really took that Ginny Thomas voicemail to heart, yes? Was it 7:30 this morning when he made his demand, and did he ask Lauren Valle to pray on it? Maybe, Tim Proffit got talking points from the "good" Mrs. Thomas. OK, he refuses to show his face during a television machine interview even though his ugly hateful mug has been plastered all over the place over the last couple of days {insert Twilight Zone music here}? And, he’s using the Mel Gibson alcoholic – type excuse. There’s new video proving correct what Ms. Valle said last night. Look at that; the 2 of them (Lauren Valle & the "good Doc") are not even in the same frame! So much for that "I was worried about Rand’s safety" excuse.
Chris Kofinis gets head stomping duty. I would HOPE that Senator John Edwards didn’t order head stomping activity while he was running for POTUS & fathering a child with another woman while his wife was going through cancer treatments; he’s got SOME standards, yes? AND, Keith asked the question I posed last night in the diary about the possible effects of this KY thuggery on Doc Paul’s chances of going to the Senate!! OK, it sounds like we need a gross of "Mainstream VS. Extreme" bumper stickers made before Tuesday.
#3 "Block the Vote" {don’t tip the vote over} ;D - Voter fraud fear is rearing its ugly rear again thanks to the GOBP in this election cycle. Remember, boys & girls, voter fraud prevention is just code for VOTE PREVENTION of those who are more than likely to vote Dem. A 3 judge panel from the 9th Circuit struck down a "Show Me Your Papers" law that demanded proof of citizenship before casting a ballot or registering to vote. Wow, 30,000 actual legal US citizens were rejected to vote. Tea baggers in MN are offering coin to anyone who turns someone in who’s trying to vote fraudulently. A mess of "people" in other states have done similar actions. GOBP lawyers are rarin’ to go if next Tuesday doesn’t go their way. Golly, according to Dick Armey, I’ll be voting fraudulently by voting early on Friday. Well, if he says it’s wrong, then I’m all for it! ;D
"Vote Backward! Vote Tea Party!" - Now, we get the super – sized "special comment" about the worst of the worst – or best of the worst – of tea baggers & their candidates, who just happen to be all GOBP. Unqualified & unstable people who will obey orders are the prime candidates in today’s GOBP. Here’s Sharron Angle who equates rape with lemonade. Glen Urquhart in Delaware (what’s in the water in Delaware?!) thinks abortion is the biggest scourge of mankind & doubts that whole separation of church & state thing, too. And, he thinks Hitler said it.
Rich Iott digs his Nazi uniforms & fibbed about being a veteran. Jon Runyan in NJ defended corporate tax loopholes. John Raese made his money the old fashioned way by inheriting it, and he lives in FL. He’s also not wild about the minimum wage. HEY! My fair state’s getting mentioned! Todd Young of the IN 9th called Social Security a ponzi scheme. Reid Ribble, cheese head, agrees. Jesse Kelly of the "Show Me Your Papers" state wants to privatize Social Security. Maybe, he owes something to GWB?
Here’s Paul Ryan! Yea, I’ve discussed him here. Sharron Angle thinks unemployment benefits spoil people. Yea, my sister got to feel spoiled for nearly 6 months! Joe Miller thinks unemployment benefits are unconstitutional even though his wife received it. And, Medicaid is unconstitutional, too, even though his parents were beneficiaries of it. Ken Buck in CO wants to gut the VA. Keith Rothfus in PA wants to turn over any & defund any case SCOTUS decides that he disagrees with? HA! David Harmer wants to get rid of public schools totally. Keith Fimian poo – poos the Department of Education. Bill Flores wants to get rid of NEA, the Department of Education, AND the Department of Energy. David Schweikert REALLY wants the Education Department to go!
Joe Miller wants to repeal the 17th Amendment & allow legislators to pick Senators. Mike Lee doesn’t like the 17th Amendment, either. Neither does Ken Buck – AND, he wants to be in the Senate. Sharron Angle wants the federal income tax amendment repealed. Rand Paul, well...we all know about Randy, yes? Louie Gohmert sees terror babies! Jan Brewer, well...we all know about her, too, yes? Dan Maes thinks bike sharing is a Communist plot. Christine (no relation to Lawrence) O’Donnell...again, we all know about her, yes?! If not, do teh Google with her name & Bill Maher. ;D
Mark Kirk digs on the Chinese – unlike the witch from DE. Ron Johnson didn’t like toughening laws on pedophiles. Mike Lee doesn’t want liability limits raised on big oil companies that...um...well...do things like nearly killing the Gulf of Mexico. Randy Paul doesn’t like federal mine safety regulations. Scott Rigell campaigned against the stimulus deal – including cash for clunkers – even though he’s a car dealer that made lots of coin FROM cash for clunkers. Vicky Hartzler is a small business owner who owns a farm that gets big ‘ol subsidies. Ken Buck called tea baggers "dumb a$$es" for that whole birther shtick. Paul LePage wants to punch reporters, Carl Paladino wants to take out reporters, and Joe Miller’s peeps handcuffed a journalist.
Doesn’t Paul LePage want to tell President Obama to go to hell, too? Christine (no relation to Lawrence) O’Donnell wants to sue a radio station in DE because they had the audacity to videotape an interview of her looking like a total Palin. Marco Rubio wants some American citizens, like the Keithster, deported. Allen West was disinvited from our military after he threatened to kill a detainee he was questioning but has higher security clearance than President Obama. Tim Walberg wants to blackmail President Obama into showing his birth certificate to Boss Limbaugh by threatening to impeach him. Their view of America is downright UnAmerican – well, American in the Joe McCarthy sense! Keith wants us to go out & vote and convince just one other person to vote. And, we get a revisit of revolution and 2nd Amendment remedies via Sharron Angle & Stephen Broden if the GOBP doesn’t get their way on Tuesday.
