This morning on WTDY, The Nation's John Nichols predicted a Feingold victory saying:
I think Russ is going to win. I do think that, at the end of the day, there is a lot of evidence that he is the one person that survives the wave.
Then later, Nichols was asked why he disagreed with national pundits like Charlie Cook and Chuck Todd and he said:
Number one, I live in Wisconsin, Chuck and Charlie decided to move to Washington... Here's what I see around Wisconsin... Craig Gilbert of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel did a very good analysis over the weekend... saying its Milwaukee suburbs versus Dane County... and we're going to look at where votes are generated, where turn-out is strong... If Dane county turns out massively, in this region where Russ has deep roots in, the general turnout pattern is strong, I think he can pull this off.
It's also about whether Feingold can get young vote turnout. You'll notice in the last week Feingold has spent all his time at college campuses. He's clearly bet on that.
I agree and think Feingold narrowly pulls this one off. Remember, back in '98, Feingold's last public poll had him at 43% and stronger than expected turn-out by Dane County got him a narrow victory.
Go Russ!
