This will be a short, but I think worthwhile, diary. The point is this: remember the big picture. That is, roughly:
(A) The Democrats didn't do a very good job on pressing issues.
(B) The Democrats didn't do much to motivate Democratic voters.
(C) Not every Republican is literally Sharon Angle.
(D) The Democrats did make some long-term progress that might have been worth it.
So, probably, some long rant about Citizen's United is a bit off base.
Beyond these points, I don't think there's really much to digest. But if you want a little more:
With respect to (A), for whatever reason the Dems acted swiftly and decisively to bail out cars and finance. Much less so with respect to 10% unemployment and shitty mortgages. Unfortunately, you can't win elections with a base of Jamie Dimon and the PE guys who threw away their money on Chrysler.
(B) seems intimately related to (A). Right now there are these MI/OH diaries, which show the bribes didn't work. Imagine how Joe Sestak would feel if the Dems had concentrated on modernizing transit in Philly with the stimulus or something. Just saying. Obama doesn't seem to get that he's Obama the voters' Obama and that the tea party is the Obama of the aging white people.
Harry Reid had no real business winning: he was actually in charge and Nevada seems really shitty. But when your opponent is an obvious lunatic, you can catch a break. But hoping for good luck isn't a plan. Which is why that didn't work as well in other Senate races. This takes care of (C).
As for (D), HCR really is important, as are Obama's education initiatives. In 15 years, we'll remember the Obama admin fondly, I'm sure. (The Iraq War still won't be over, but we'll have forgotten what it was like not to have it.)
