The title of this diary comes from a post at democraticunderground.com which directs you to this link of an article by bmaz at FireDogLake . . .
As you may know, in early November of 2005, agents of the United States government destroyed at least ninety two videotapes containing direct evidence of the interrogation and, upon admission and belief, torture of Abu Zubaydah and Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri . . .
The statute of limitations, for the criminal destruction of said taped evidence in the cases of Abu Zubaydah and al-Nashiri will expire on Sunday November 7 (since the last day falls on a weekend, the statute should maintain through the next business day, which is Monday November 8).
What has AG Eric Holder and his Special Prosecutor John Dunham done about this? Absolutely NOTHING.
More below the fold

Complicity is a bitch . . .
After today, there can be NO action taken by the government over the illegal destruction of evidence of torture by the CIA. The winner here is the legacy of George W. Bush. The loser is every American who does not want to see our country lied into another war for the benefit of war profiteers.
What does Attorney General Holder do with his time? He doesn't hold torturers accountable, he doesn't hold foreclosure fraudsters accountable, he seems willing to look the other way on every big corporate and government abuse of power. In an age where Big Business and government agencies like the CIA take the rule of law into their own hands over and over Eric Holder is nowhere to be seen.
As ex-President George W. Bush travels nationwide collecting big speaking fees, selling his memoir and re-writing the failed history that is his legacy, we must remind ourselves that President Bush Jr inherited a budget surplus from President Clinton, and then squandered it on tax cuts for the rich and the war in Iraq.
But we must NEVER admit that the war in Iraq was based on lies! Or evidence gained by unconstitutional torture.
So it comes to pass that CIA agents are allowed to illegally destroy evidence of war crimes by a DEMOCRATIC President's Attorney General. By the end of the day, the CIA will know that whatever illegal actions they may be involved in will be ignored, and that will only embolden them to act illegally again when they feel the need to in the future.
Unless AG Holder and Special Prosecutor John Dunham act TODAY. Of course, if you believe that, I have some stock in Bear Stearns I'd like to sell you.
I leave you with the words of bmaz at FireDogLake, as I think it is all summed up perfectly, and sadly, in this one paragraph . . .
If the DOJ does not intend to proceed in any fashion on these clear crimes, please provide me with some intellectually consistent explanation for why the US government is covering up, and refusing to prosecute, the criminal acts of its own employees and agents.
In a country where the rich are Too Big To Fail and where war crimes can go unpunished, we no longer have a rule of law. We only have the Golden rule now. He who has the gold, makes the rules.
So sad. It was a nice little rule of law while it lasted.
Never ending tyranny and oligarchy dressed up as freedom and liberty, here we come . . .
Peace and love to all
