Because on November 9th, 2010, George W. Bush releases his book "Decision Points" where he proudly admits that he personally authorized the torture of human beings.
In his book, titled "Decision Points," Bush recounts being asked by the CIA whether it could proceed with waterboarding Mohammed, who Bush said was suspected of knowing about still-pending terrorist plots against the United States. Bush writes that his reply was "Damn right" and states that he would make the same decision again to save lives,
Meanwhile, the U.S. Department of Justice sits back and does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. No imprisonment, no indictments, no war-crime tribunals, not even a token investigation.
"Waterboarding is torture"
Eric Holder, Attorney General of the United States, January 15, 2009.
Article 2 of the Convention Against Torture prohibits torture, and requires parties to take effective measures to prevent it in any territory under its jurisdiction. This prohibition is absolute and non-derogable. "No exceptional circumstances whatsoever" may be invoked to justify torture, including war, threat of war, internal political instability, public emergency, terrorist acts, violent crime, or any form of armed conflict. Torture cannot be justified as a means to protect public safety or prevent emergencies.
The United States ratified the Convention against Torture in October 1994. The Convention entered into force for the United States on November 20, 1994.
There are just 2 days left until every law on the books becomes a FRICKIN JOKE and, frankly, I can't wait! My current plans:
-start ripping the tags off of pillows and mattresses
-jaywalk everywhere except the designated crossing areas
-download a few thousand illegal movies and songs
-yell "FIRE" in a movie theater filled with Republicans
-rob a dozen banks with toy squirt guns filled with Orange Tang
-full frontal public nudity, full backside public nudity too
-hire a busload full of prostitutes with diapers (David Vitter style)
What will YOU do?
