In the comments on Glen Beck's Horrific Lie, a lot of people are asking how they can make an economic impact on Fox in general and Beck in particular.
Who are his sponsors?
Who can we write to?
What can I do?
Join StopBeck, which has been tremendously successful in deterring sponsorship of Beck's programs.
Please bear with me: I'm going to do paste in more than is usual to timely post this diary. I don't think StopBeck will mind, but if anyone does, I'll edit it down.
StopBeck.com is a nonpartisan effort focused on holding Glenn Beck accountable for preying on racial anxieties, employing vitriolic rhetoric, propagating sexism and disseminating willful distortions. Our purpose is to urge sponsors to stop supporting Glenn Beck’s brand of hate with advertising dollars.
To be clear: This effort is not about Glenn Beck’s political opinions. Rather, this effort is in direct response to Mr. Beck’s continued recklessness. Neither Fox News nor Glenn Beck will take responsibility for the willful lies, propagation of sexism or preying in racial anxieties. Accordingly, we are compelled to bring accountability back to broadcasting. We would prefer that Mr. Beck, regardless of his opinions, act responsibly.
Dropped Sponsors
Total number of companies that refuse to have ads run on Glenn Beck: 139! (Although, based on a New York Times report, this number is actually at 300).
While Beck’s personal ventures and exposure have soared this year, his television ratings have declined sharply — perhaps another factor in the network’s impatience. His show now averages two million viewers, down from a high of 2.8 million in 2009, according to the Nielsen Ratings. And as of Sept. 21, 296 advertisers have asked that their commercials not be shown on Beck’s show (up from 26 in August 2009).
Glenn Beck’s show has run in the U.K. for nearly 8 months without any commercials.
Also, it has been reported that the Glenn Beck show is losing more than 50% of its weekly ad revenue as a result of this boycott.
Unfortunately, StopBeck.com's list of remaining sponsors is being revised, but their FB page [sorry] has frequent updates and action alerts.
I've participated in contacting a number of companies, many of which were unaware that their airtime was being scheduled during Beck's show, and were more than agreeable -- in some cases, graceful and adamant -- to withdraw their ad dollars once consumers made their thoughts known.
