We've had fun discussing the Pat Caddell / Douglas Schoen nonsense that apparently is scheduled to appear in tomorrow's Washington Post - to the effect that Obama should admit total failure and just call it a day, all in the best interests of the nation (sure, he might be passing up a legitimate opportunity for re-election - but there are bigger fish to fry here!).
So, forgive me if this inspired my return to a favorite, but long-neglected, pastime: writing topical song parodies.
For your entertainment, and without further ado - based on Tom Petty's I Won't Back Down:
Well I give up now, yeah I give up now
I’d like to prevail but I just don’t know how
So I give up now
Yeah I’m on my knee, please take pity on me
I’ll apologize and I’ll compromise,
And I give up now, yeah I give up now
Chorus:
(I give up now)
Hey, O'Reilly – I’ll take the easy way out
You win Sarah
Just forget my vow, ‘cause I give up now
Well this job’s too tough and I’ve had enough
I can’t take these meanies pushin’ me ‘round
So I’ll toss my towel
And I give up now
