Yes, although this event has been spun around in different ways already by the MSM, and articles on this site, the postponing of this meeting by the Republican leadership is in no way a surprise to me. If anyone stops to recall what happened this February during the HCR meeting between the President and the Republican House caucus in Baltimore, I could certainly understand why the Republicans would postpone the meeting to try to delay such an event.
What I'm having a problem with however, is why on a Democratic site, supposedly geared to Democratic politicians and ostensibly supportive of Democratic president, a story like this should be spun to such ridiculous lengths so as to make the President appear to be the weak pushover, when the obvious (and most likely) narrative is that the Republicans are backing away from the meeting because they are no match for the President in a face to face meeting on Bush Tax Cuts.
According to the Washinton Post:
The postponement - whatever the reason - was a bad omen for Obama, who was counting on the summit to start turning around his political fortunes. It appeared to signal that Republicans are less anxious than the White House to launch a new era of bipartisanship, and it was a stark example of Obama's diminished ability to get members of Congress to bend to his will.
Yes I would expect this garbage from the WaPo. It's pure MSM spin and we know that they never frame things as positives for the President. This is part of their past, current and future strategy to undermine this President to make him appear as weak as they claim he is. But I am extremely disappointed to see this same narrative presented in all it's glory on the front page article of none other than Daily KOS!
I thought the purpose of blogsites like this was to CHALLENGE the prevailing MSM narrative, not to simply ECHO it. But it seems that the FP author and all the people who jumped on to the narrative, have more problems with this President than they do with corporate media. By all means, make him a one-term president. But don't pretend about your motives. Many of the "professional left" media pundits STAND TO BENEFIT if the Bush tax cuts are maintained. Many of them are millionaires and billionaires. No wonder they are trying to muddle this up by undermining the President. Then they jump on every story about how weak the president is, without uttering as much as a peep to the Republicans who are negotiating in bad faith, failing to compromise, and just being disgusting. The only time the "Professional Left" criticizes the Republicans is in the context of dragging the President into it to bash him. The "Professional Left" is not working on behalf of the American people. They found a niche market which helps their pocket book, but they will do whatever they can to help their bottom line, and if that includes undermining a Democratic leadership that has the greatest ability to generate some parity between the haves and have-nots, then so be it.
