Look, I think the subject line says it all. So no need to read further if you already get it.
Here's the proverbial nutshell:
If the Democrats can't DO something, I can't see any reason to give them my dollars to get re-elected and not DO something yet again.
I'm fucking tired of this Lucy-with-the-football schtick.
Like most of us, I was gobstopped when Obama was elected. I never thought I would see an African American president in my lifetime—except on the vicarious sadomasochistic freak show, "24."
And such a candidate!
He had heart. He had brilliance. He had dreams for this country even an aging democratic socialist like me didn't dare to mumble about in my sleep.
The truth is, I still believe he is all that.
In many ways, Obama is everything I find noble in a person.
But he can't govern for shit.
Whether his heart is in the right place or not, he's not DOING what's necessary. Whatever is necessary. Even risking the shame of being "wrong" in the eyes of critics and supporters.
Warm, witty, wise, but essentially gentle comebacks are a devastatingly thin fig leaf to rely on when you're facing guys wearing jackboots.
What the time calls for is a Lincoln. Or Teddy Roosevelt. FDR. LBJ.
Someone who is willing to do what it takes. Whatever it takes. Even risk the horrid shame of critics and supporters thinking you're doing the "wrong" thing.
There are people and powers in our nation and world doing evil things. Like ransacking the Treasury. Pitting brother against brother over trivial matters to foster hatred just to provide a distraction. Igniting class warfare to favor the corporations and über-welathy. Sending young people away to die for wars that no one understands—yet again. Playing with our survival by blocking healthcare.
Sucking every last dollar from the poor and middle class through regressive taxation, hellacious corporate policies, and outright fraud. Laughing all the way to the Caymans.
And then getting the Hell out of Dodge with their loot before our fragile "shining city on the hill" collapses in ruins under its own weight.
Or more evil yet: waiting passively and patiently like carrion eaters salivating to feast on the carcass that's left like Yeltsin did when the Soviet Union went bankrupt. If the Chinese will allow.
It's not the time to feel smugly superior to "wingnuttery." Last time I checked, they were efficiently kicking our asses.
It's time for boycotts or bats.
George Soros is once again showing us the way. He publicly threatened the president and the party that if things don't change he's taking his bucks and going home. His handlers spun his message to appear benign for the cameras.
But don't ever imagine Obama didn't hear the message. Loud and with fear-sharpened clarity.
If all the Dems understand is money—and the corporations have justifiably abandoned their wussy asses, we progressives are all that they have left.
They have nowhere else to turn. Which puts us in a uniquely powerful position for the first time in a VERY long time.
We've been propping up this dying nag of a party up since 2006. (Thank you, Kos! Thank you, Howard Dean!)
It's time to deliver the message to the Dems they can expect no dollars from us if they don't fucking DO something. Instead of tastefully whining that those bullies are blocking everything we want to do.
"What was I supposed to do, Mom? He's bigger than me. And HE hit ME first."
If that doesn't work? Well, we still have our bats.
Please, please can some technical wizard put up a fast website or Facebook page with an email message or petition straight to the White House declaring our willingness to boycott the Dems if they don't fucking DO something? Anything?
No balls? NO BUCKS.
