By mudslinging, I mean attacks on administration, justified or not, that propose no constructive alternative solution.
Our President has invited us to hold his feet to the fire. That does not mean indulging in a lot of self-congratulatory blathering on the subject of how the administration isn't upholding your own high standards. Baby. It means identifying real policy proposals that we can support, bugging our congressmen and working to see that those proposals get the attention they deserve.
I am sick and tired of hearing complaints that offer nothing but ego on parade. Cenk Uygur is a master of this, which is why diaries demanding that he knock it off have been so popular today. What I want to hear: constructive solutions and organized efforts to promote those solutions.
Therefore I propose the following.
- Kindly refrain from explaining how pure your own liberal credentials are if you haven't got a credible alternative to support.
- Please save your apparently unlimited breath for constructive action that can be organized and focused using the power of this forum.
- There is a lot of work to do between now and the next election, which has already started. Sarah Palin has hours and hours of campaign commercials disguised as a "reality show" already on the air. Some questions to be thinking about are:
How can Democrats make better use of social networking tools to get out the youth vote in 2012?
How can we limit the damage the Republican House will attempt to inflict on the administration? Chris Bowers has an excellent diary up right now that may not have the tabloid appeal of today's metafest, but does propose constructive action that Democrats can take to ensure that we come out on top in 2012.
What can I do right now to register new voters? Are there volunteer opportunities I can take advantage of right now?
How can we best use our time and energy to put pressure on the administration to reverse course on detention policy, to close Guantanamo, to get out of Afghanistan, and so on?
In short, please, let's get to work. Together.
