Here we are all sitting idly by watching the greatest hijacking of wealth the western world has ever seen, and what are we doing about it? Well apart from politicians running around like headless chickens and giving away our futures hand over fist; not a lot.
How often have you seen whole nations held to ransom? How often have you seen victims forced to pay for the crimes of the perpetrators?
Iceland had the right idea, make the banks pay; and make those silly enough to invest in them foot the bill. The high return for no work mentality scenario whetted the avarice of many, and fooled many more.
But Iceland is an isolated case:
Ask those living in Greece and Ireland and most of the western world how this is working out. Every newly discovered failing of the financial sector turns the screw on the public sector. Services are being slashed, austerity lauded as a savior, with every turn on the screw growth diminishes and ever more blood is drawn from the stone.
Yet there is rejoicing:
From the sector that drove the markets to ruin.
Crazy salaries and insane bonuses are back in a sector that profits nobody but themselves.
We are being asked
1] To work longer hours
2] To work until we drop.
3] To expect less in return for those years of hard work.
4] To cut the services we pay for.
5] To hurt the least fortunate amongst us by removing our support.
6] To make education once more a privilege.
We are being taught to be small minded and petty; and in the meantime our societies so hard fought for are being eviscerated and sacrificed at the fallacious alter of 'fiscal responsibility'. Our common dreams are turning into a collective nightmare.
We in fact are held responsible for the years of greed.
Whilst those who drove us over the cliff once more swill champagne and laugh in our faces.
Governments and international funds hold us ransom to the bankers greed, and to make matters worse we are expected to bail them out of their failures with interest.
This cannot be allowed to continue.
We are all threatened by this give away to the rich, it is time we said "no we will not pay". The riches of the societies we created from the ashes of global conflict are ours, and the wealth of the nation belongs to the people.
The more we protect those that rob us blind, the poorer we all will be.
Time for a social revolution?
I think so.
