I was just HR'd for presenting the ideas I saw in Waiting for Superman last night. I have since read teacherKen's responsehttp://www.dailykos.com/...as well as Diane Ravich's article in New York review of books:http://www.nybooks.com/....
The problem is, there is no dialogue.
People are not willing to see the strong kernels of truth in Waiting for Superman.
The public education system is filled with bad teachers. This is virtually undeniable.
Furthermore, it is almost impossible at this time to fire these bad teachers because of Union contracts. This is also undeniable.
ALso, Michelle Rhee's proposal to raise teacher pay in DC to over 120,000 dollars a year wasnt allowed a vote, because the unions didnt want to lose their power.
These are facts that neither Ravich nor teacherKen refute.
My point is, whatever this guys agenda, the system as it is needs reform badly.
Calling me names, a Right WInger, HRing my posts, this is the work of simpletons unwilling to dialogue and debate. And it is a sad fact of life when the extremists take charge.
If you have a point to make make it, dont attack people with ad hominems.
Thank you.
