Here's a deep thought: Congress should LOWER the social security eligibility age to 55, and thereby relieve the workplace of older employees, to open up the employment prospects for the next wave.
It might require a substantial uptick in Social Security funding via income deductions, but I'd bet that "next wave" would gladly trade a higher weekly FICA paycheck deduction in exchange for better job security.
And I'd also wager there are more than a few overworked older employees who got dumped on when their employers laid off all their fellow employees, workers who are tired of shouldering all that enforced productivity, who would be happy to retire earlier than they originally planned.
