Dear Senator Sanders
I want to thank you with all my heart for your wonderful speech/filibuster yesterday, you filled this Vermonter with renewed determination. It was alternately inspiring, saddening and maddening.
Never in my lifetime has the senate been filled with such focused rhetoric highlighting the fundamental truths of our political and economic system. The stark and ever expanding inequality between rich and poor Americans, the highway robbery by the corporations and their owners which in effect makes the US a tax haven.
Thank you for stating clearly just how little respect is being shown to the greatest Americans of us all; the working and middle class. You demonstrated just how much they are suffering in this great recession and that this was in fact fueled by the excesses of our elite.
I am proud to call myself an independent social democrat in these days of elite ownership of the two main parties, you haven given me both reason and inspiration to maintain this distance from the two redundant parties. Senator Sanders you are an inspiration to us all. I believe you speak for a significant if silent minority of Americans, hopefully our numbers will grow and with that our voices may start to be heard, and one day we may hold the bully pulpit and change the system.
I have always admired the passion you bring to our cause, and the clarity with which you highlight the injustices; yesterday was icing on the cake. I care not a wit what the right nor the MSM will make of this since you spoke to and for me; and I hope millions of others.
I care little what the Democratic party may make of this since their evident fragility has been on display ever since we voted them in to govern and legislate, their failure in this has been near complete.
Thank you for highlighting the abysmal truth that the Republican party is made up of nothing but empty suits at the beck and call of the lobbyists. We all know where their interests lie but it is still wonderfully motivating to hear it said from the senate floor.
Your description of how DC works and the colony of vultures that inhabit its halls highlighted by the power broking ex party members masquerading as lobbyists. Yes the people have been completely abandoned by their elected representatives, money rules the roost.
I know your speech will change little in the halls of congress but I hope many minds were opened at least a little by your efforts, speaking for myself you have helped me regroup and know that we can never give in no matter what odds we face. All across the industrialized world the specter of 'Austerity' masking the greatest heist ever seen is well under way, if we do not resist now, may we forever hold our peace.
All my love and respect
Alessandra.
Note
I do not want Bernie Sanders for president, I just want more people like him in the House and Senate, honest independent people for once; and then maybe one fine day another in the White house
