In a confidential communication dated Dec. 14, 2007 released by WikiLeaks on Sunday, then-US Ambassador to France Craig Roberts Stapleton recommended a series of actions to threaten the EU in general and France in particular because they continue to ban biotech seeds.
"Mission Paris recommends that that the [United States government] reinforce our negotiating position with the EU on agricultural biotechnology by publishing a retaliation list when the extend 'Reasonable Time Period' expires," Stapleton wrote. "Europe is moving backwards not forwards on this issue with France playing a leading role, along with Austria, Italy and even the [European] Commission."
Stapelton added that the US should create a list "that causes some pain across the EU, since this is a collective responsibility, but that also focuses in part on the worst culprits."

More under the fold.
This illegal intervention in other countries' domestic affairs is particularly targeted at France:
The former US official added that France's "High Authority" on agricultural biotech was particularly offensive because it sought to "roll back established science-based decision making." He added that a bill considered by the French National Assembly should be rebuked by the publication "of a registry identifying the cultivation of GMOs at the parcel levels" ... "given the propensity for activists to destroy GMO crops in the field."
The wikileak exposes a high-ranking US official advocating a selective leak of otherwise confidential information to achieve a European political objective on behalf of US private industry, i.e.: Monsanto.
Go and read the rest of the article to see more dirty ops by the US including using Blackwater mercs to infiltrate local activist groups organizing against the multinational biotech firm.
This month, more than one million Europeans signed a petition demanding the EU halt the approval of new genetically modified crops.
The reason most EU countries fight against biotech crops is because their researchers differ from Monsanto's as to the danger to the environment and the people and animals who consume these products.
The US corporatist government is but a puppet on Monsanto in this area and is trying to bully the world.
This raises a more general issue: speaking as an expat, I have noticed a marked increase in the mistrust and dislike toward the American corporations, government and banks in the past year.
Examples of American companies' misbehavior including refusing to comply with local laws, blatant tax fraud, other types of frauds, etc. abound in the newspapers.
People rightly or wrongly widely blame the American financial industry for the depression.
Not mentioning the export of American right-wing kooky memes such as global warming denying, creationism, etc.
This latest action will only stir more negative emotions towards America.
This is not going to end well.
