I am using my diary allowance to try to promote a diary I just read which is currently languishing and about to fall off the recent diaries list. I also see the unfortunate irony that my own diary will only push it further down, but I'm hoping that it might help get a bit more attention for a very well written diary about an important topic.
Racism and discrimination in employment.
How Far Will One Company Go to Avoid Hiring Blacks?
This diary discusses some horrifying hiring practices of a campus housing developers and the outright racism engaged by management. I find the fact that as of this writing it only had 15 comments to be very discouraging. There is a general trend about discrimination in employment here that is pretty depressing.
I recently wrote my own diary about being asked my age in an pre-interview questionnaire and the general response was that it was somehow acceptable - that there might be a "legitimate" reason. Well the management of this company has their "legitimate" reasons for not wanting to hire african americans, so I guess that makes it okay as well?
I hope everyone will read this diary - my comments here do it no justice, but it should be at the top of the rec list in my opinion. In light of accusations of racism against white liberals on this site, it's a disappointment to see a story about blatant racism die with little comment.
