"Folks, the Republicans did it again last week. They derided a sensible Democratic plan for a new course in Iraq with that familiar slogan: Cut and Run.
"Cut and Run. Unfortunately, the GOP doesn't know the meaning of the phrase. Let me put it in terms they will understand:
"When the people responsible for doing a job walk away from it instead, they've cut and run. And that perfectly describes the Republicans in Washington.
"Cut and run. When 45 million Americans are uninsured, and Republicans can provide only bandaids for the problem, they've cut and run from healthcare.
"Cut and run. When deficits reach record levels, and Republicans instead shower tax breaks on the wealthiest Americans, they've cut and run from the deficit.
"Cut and run. When energy prices climb out of sight, and Republicans instead vote down a minimum wage increase, they've cut and run from the working poor.
"Cut and run. When college costs soar out of sight, and Republicans offer no plan, they've cut and run from parents and college students.
"Cut and run. When scientists provide more and more data that global warming is a real and growing problem, and Republicans offer nothing, they've cut and run from the future of our world.
"Our soldiers do not cut and run. They do their jobs admirably. No, those who are doing the cutting and running are the Republicans. It's the job of the politicians to set benchmarks for the war's progress, so we can bring the troops home as they complete the job. When the Republicans have no plan for success in Iraq; when all they offer is a vague `stay the course' philosophy; then they are the ones who are cutting and running - from their responsibility to our men and women in uniform.
"Maybe the Republicans do understand the phrase "cut and run." It just hurts when you look in the mirror and realize that you are the problem."
If we learn nothing else from Karl Rove, shouldn't we at least learn that you turn the strength of the enemy back on them? What do you think? Should some Democrat make that speech?
