<"When a well-packaged web of lies has been sold gradually to the masses over generations, the truth will seem utterly preposterous and its speaker a raving lunatic." --Dresden James>
I have been reading and listening all day to pundits and politicians bemoan the rising tide of hateful political rhetoric, and how both the Left and the Right need to have a conversation about civil discourse in this country. And I have been getting mad as hell.
I remember an episode of Real Time with Bill Maher where two of his guests were NAACP President Benjamin Todd Jealous and Bush Homeland Security Advisor Fran Townsend. (Season 7, Episode 157, http://sharetv.org/...
The panel was discussing incendiary political speech, and does it translate into violence? Mr. Jealous brought up the issue of death threats, how many more had been made against President Obama as opposed to President Bush, and how many death threats Mr. Jealous has had made against him. Mr. Jealous asked Ms. Townsend how many death threats against Randall Terry (founder of Operation Rescue) had been reported, and how many death threats against himself?
After some obfuscation, Ms. Townsend admitted that she had been in a position in the Bush administration to know the answer to that question, and that, to the best of her knowledge; Mr. Terry had never had a death threat made against him, while Mr. Jealous had his life threatened over and over again.
Both sides of the American political spectrum do not do this. Both sides do not advocate "second amendment remedies." Both sides do not talk about "cross-hairs and reloading". To hold any other view is dishonest and hypocritical. To broadcast any other view is a LIE. I am SICK of Republicans propagating this lie, and I am SICK of the media that lets them get away with it.
