I started this diary more than a week ago, far before the tragedy in Tuscon. I was going to post it over the weekend, but that event made me rethink what I intended to say. As much as I want the following, I also don't want the Dems to look like thay are somehow politicizing upon the events in Tuscon. What follows is my original opening statment.
The GOP members of the House of Representatives made a promise that they would make legislation to repeal the Health Care Reform law. Since the GOP holds a numerical advantage in the House, it's going to pass, even though it will not pass in the Senate, and even if it did, Obama would Veto the bill. In otherwords, it is a big waste of time.
My suggestion to the Democratic members of The House is don't spend a single minute debating the Repeal of HealthCare bill, it isn't worth the time or the effort. I also suggest that every Democratic member of The House abstain from voting on the measure.
I am not advocating that the Democratic Party become the new party of No. Instead, it is a show of restraint and of recognition that time spent on this bill is a waste of Government time and energy that could be spent in real debate over topics that are more imortant to this nation. Let us not engage in this frivolous exercises in futility. As a party, the Democrats are moving forward, not revisiting a policy that has been passed and made into law.
Let the GOP own this complete waste of time and effort when the country needs real work done to create jobs in the US. Let the GOP explain to the country why they did this.
A byproduct of this tactic, is that the newscycle for the Repeal debate will be halved. Plus, the GOP won't have a Democratic statement to hang a talking point on to.
