The House of Representatives has just voted on the repeal of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare. The vote on H.R. 2 was 245-189.
Nevada Rep. Joe Heck (R-NV), Rep. Dean Heller (R-NV) both voted to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, while Rep. Shelley Berkley (D-NV) voted against the repeal.
Here are some of the health care reforms that are currently in affect that ALL Nevadans and All Americans would lose if the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act were repealed.
Health coverage cannot be arbitrarily cancelled if you become sick
Children cannot be denied coverage due to a pre-existing condition
Children up to age 26 can stay on your health plan
No lifetime limits on health coverage
Annual limits are phased out over three years
Key preventive services will be available without a deductible or co-pay
Patients have a right to choose their own doctor
Options are improved for appealing insurance companies’ decisions
Restrictions on emergency room care are ended
It protects Nevada’s seniors by strengthening Medicare and lowering the cost of prescription drug medications. In fact, 58,200 Nevada Medicare beneficiaries are hit by the Medicare "donut hole" that can cost seniors an average of $4,080 per year.
The legislation reduces this coverage gap while providing a 50% discount on brand name prescription drugs and biologics for low and middle-income seniors. Furthermore, the legislation offers free preventive care for 328,000 Nevada Medicare beneficiaries on procedures such as colonoscopies and mammograms.
The repeal bill H. R. 2 that the republicans have just past offers NOTHING to replace any of the above coverage’s that benefit all of Nevada and the United States of America, they simply want to get rid of it so the Health Care industry can continue to drop those that do get sick while refusing coverage to those with pre-existing health care issues.
Today’s vote is a major victory for the Health Care industry and an appeasement for the Tea Party movement, and slap in the face to American citizens. The Bill will now go to the Democratic controlled Senate where it will most like stay never reaching the desk of President Obama who would certainly veto any repeals.
