So everybody is all 'Yaayyy!', now that KO is going to work for Current TV. Except the point appears to be missed. Here's the point, from the Current TV FAQ:
Why can't I watch full episodes anymore?
Recently Current TV made the decision to remove full episodes from our site and our syndication partners for a variety of reasons. We are a TV network and we are doing everything we can to be successful both on-air and online. As a fan of Current, if you want to help us be more successful in more places, there are a few things you can do. One way you could help is by calling up your cable provider and requesting Current TV, even if we aren't available in your area. Another way is sharing our show clips with your friends, and encouraging them to check us out on TV. In the spirit of full transparency, you should know that In the near term, we don't expect to change our position, but we appreciate your feedback. [emphasis mine]
You say what you like about Rupert Murdoch, but he gets it: 'You want the truth? Screw you - you won't pay for it: but I'll give you lies for free, because I can get other people to pay me for those.'
I don't have a TV or a cable plan. If I could afford it, I'd probably get both just because Keith O is going to Current - but I have no illusions. It's just another elitist take on information. The only people who will watch it are those who are already convinced. They can afford it. Nobody's going to pay until they're already convinced - it's the endless, Progressive loop.
And yet, oddly enough, it is the people who need convincing; the people who might watch a free broadcast over the internet; the very people to whom the idea of Progressive values might make a difference... who will never see any programming on Current TV. I'm talking about the average Red Staters - who can't afford much - but who have, nevertheless, been convinced to repeatedly vote against their own self-interest by fifteen years of free exposure to Fox News: compliments of the man who gets it.
Don't get me wrong - I love Keith. He's a brilliant man. And Al Gore is one of the great men of the past fifty years. But they just don't get it. Also, please understand that they have every right to make piles of money - but let us also not kid ourselves: until Progressive news gets out into the wild on an equal footing (EQUAL, dammit - FREE AND EVERYWHERE!), it's not going to change things all that much. Murdoch put his money where his mouth was, and he was right. He won, and we're all paying dearly for it - especially those consumers of his crap who believed him and now watch their teeth fall out every morning in the mirror ("...but by god we beat those fucking Democrats, didn't we?").
So I'll leave it here, with part of my comment in another Diary (yeah, yeah - so I'm quoting myself...) that forced me on to put this Diary out:
I get so tired of truth being lonely.
