Here is one of many smoke signals we've been getting in the past couple of days about government spending plans.
Looks like revenue problems require us to make deep cuts in government spending!
Nobody knows where these revenue problems are coming from, but somebody has to pay for them ...
Anyone want to guess who that somebody is?
From the article:
Running close to two hours and hosted by Senate Majority Whip Richard Durbin (D-Ill.) in his third floor Capitol offices, the meeting had an equal mix of Democrats—Durbin, Conrad, and Virginia Sen. Mark Warner—and Republicans: Sens. Saxby Chambliss of Georgia, Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, and Mike Crapo of Idaho.
Durbin, Conrad, Coburn and Crapo are all veterans of the commission while Warner and Chambliss -- an old friend of Boehner's -- have joined forces in an effort to advance the same agenda.
Isn't that great -- they are bipartisan! And they are veterans of the Catfood Commission!
Guess what the agenda is?
To enrich the already very rich and screw over everyone else ...
In the middle of an economic crisis, no less!
But you can't keep a good Democrat down -- when it comes from robbing working families and giving to the rich.
More:
The goal is to revive — in either legislative form or the spring budget resolution — major elements of the commission’s plan to narrow future deficits by nearly $4 trillion over the next 10 years. Appropriations cuts would be part of the strategy but so would entitlement and tax reform. And if the senators can show enough political strength, the hope is that this would give Boehner and Obama enough cover to join them.
You cannot.
Freaking.
Make.
This crap up.
Seriously!
It's like we're being governed by every evil and stupid person and idea in the country -- all at once.
The article opines that a deficit deal would be a huge political win for Obama, much like Clinton's welfare reform.
You know what would really be huge?
Jobs.
Digby believes that Durbin is acting as Obama's lieutenant here.
If so, shame on the President.
