Like the last gasp of a demon clutching desperately to the souls of a possessed nation, Hosni Mubarak spewed a venomous rejection into the faces of his people. Through a macabre and rambling address to his nation, President Mubarak, a master of monstrosities, illuminated how completely out of touch he is with the people.
Throngs of hopefuls gathered in Cairo’s Tahrir Square, eagerly awaiting relief from an evil presence that has incubated, grown and ultimately, been allowed to thrive within the Egyptian experience. Many with children in tow prayed silently and aloud that somehow their tormentor would finally be cast into a deserving hell.
But much to the horror of Egyptian protestors, the monster within had dug his poisonous claws so deeply into the body of its victim, they quickly realized, their struggle for freedom had not ended.
One could safely analogize Egypt’s plight as that of someone experiencing an exorcism. First efforts are rarely successful when evil has had so much time to fester and gain strength. For decades, the Mubarak regime has been nurtured, supported and protected by shortsighted western masters for the lethal embrace he’d strangle any dissent with.
As though fed a steady diet of tana leaves, this mother of all Mummy monsters mutated from the physical into an ungodly disease, insidiously infiltrating and infecting the minds of every Egyptian. With the passage of time, a proud Egyptian people slowly became acculturated into a life of subservience. Heads kept firmly down, eyes sheepishly avoiding authority while accepting scraps, they found themselves convinced, existence without the strong arm of autocracy paternally guiding their every path would only lead to an even worse fate.
Mubarak’s long endured demonic presence, sustained through fear, punishment and rarely warranted reprisals has enslaved the very spirit of the Egyptian people. While he feasted on the essence of the most modest aspirations, Mubarak and his benefactors denied Egyptians self respect, dignity and worst of all, a future with any meaning. Hungrily turning dreams into nightmares, to feed his insatiable thirst for more of everything, Mubarak’s dominance selfishly and arrogantly dragged his people further from the light.
However, the elders of the Egyptian population are now regaining strength from their offspring. Refocusing their view of a life without hope through their youth’s eyes, they strain to see a different vision; grandparents, parents, teens and tots have unified to climb the steep and perilous mountain of freedom together.
When one falls, another is there to offer a hand; when someone is beaten and tortured, others are there to tend their wounds; and when evil inevitably exacts the ultimate price, brothers, sisters, cousins, neighbors and friends are there to take their place in the fight.
Warring with a devil, manmade or supernatural, is a battle of attrition. Evil does not die easily. Evil has as many weapons as it has allies and will use every one to hold its prey down. Evil is patient, cunning and deceptive. Evil is clever and smart. On the other hand, no matter how strong and invincible evil portends to be, evil is not very wise. If history is any judge, wisdom has always proven evil can be defeated with peaceful and persistent protest.
The world is with you for your fight is every human’s right!
