I have been moved in the past few days by the grassroots uprising that has begun in my state. In the noble tradition of non-violent protest pioneered by Mahatma Gandhi and used so effectively in this country under the guidance of Martin Luther King, Jr., during the civil rights era, our movement comes closely on the heels of the recent successful populist uprising in Egypt.
While I am proud of all of the individuals who are making their voices heard, I cannot help but feel that this movement would reach critical mass sooner if someone who was already a leader would step in and speak his mind. Wisconsin was fortunate to have a leader who exemplified integrity, who fought on behalf of all Wisconsinites, not just its wealthiest citizens, and who protected the rights of individuals over those of corporations. In an election that is looking more and more tragic as the days go by, this champion of what was fair lost his bid for reelection to someone who contributed $10,000 to Scott Walker's campaign . We know that Ron Johnson will not speak up for what is right for the workers of Wisconsin, the disadvantaged, and the children.
Russ Feingold, where are you? Wisconsin needs you.
