The President mistakenly cites irony, and the next day, The New York Times asserts that he had cited hypocrisy.
In a February 15th news story, The New York Times quoted President Obama as saying:
"I find it ironic that you’ve got the Iranian regime pretending to celebrate what happened in Egypt...when in fact they have acted in direct contrast to what happened in Egypt by gunning down and beating people who were trying to express themselves peacefully in Iran.”
In a news story the next day (February 16th), The New York Times asserted that President Obama had highlighted the hypocrisy of Iran's pretense:
President Obama accused Iran’s leaders of hypocrisy for first encouraging the protests in Egypt, which they described as a continuation of Iran’s own revolution, and then cracking down on Iranians who used the pretext to come out on the streets.
