Today marks two weeks since the 6.3 quake struck Christchurch, New Zealand.
The death toll is 166 with over a hundred missing. Some of those missing will be amongst the dead. The final death toll is expected to be around 200. Won't be known for months.
It has been the longest two weeks I have known for quite some time.
Its an event that has fallen completely off the American media's radar.
166 dead and around 10,000 houses to be demolished, one quarter of the buildings in the cbd to be demolished, hundreds of heritgage buildings to be demolished, no sewage system working.
Yes... its totally a non event snark. But if its not something "winning" like the train wreck of the Half a Men show then it doesn't count,
Here is some video to make it clear how bad it was:
Two weeks ago, people still had their loved ones... now 166 (and counting) are gone. Some are still waiting, not knowing where their loved ones are.
Some may never know what happened to them.
Thousands will lose their jobs.. some business that were on the verge after the previous quake in September will go under.
Domestic violence reports are sky rocketing. Stress levels are through the roofs. Children are unable to sleep. Hundreds of aftershocks on top of the 4,000 aftershocks after the September quake.
People are terrified. Thousands have left Christchurch, some won't return.
The economy of Christchurch will take a huge hit.
Now I have got the bad shit out of the road... there actually is good things happening..
People are getting to know their neighbours... friendships are being made. People throughout New Zealand are rallying behind Christchurch. Hundreds of fundraisers are being held in workplaces, schools and sports events. Millions of dollars have already been raised.
People have been kicked in the guts and kiwi's all over the world are sending their love, support and money back home. Some are even returning home to help.
Its been two weeks of hell.
