Here's yet another entry in the "you can't make this stuff up" file. WorldNutDaily is heavily promoting a new book by forensic psychologist Lyle Rossiter, "The Liberal Mind." Rossiter argues that liberalism, at heart, is a mental illness.
Rossiter explains with great clarity why the kind of liberalism being displayed by Barack Obama can only be understood as a psychological disorder.
"Based on strikingly irrational beliefs and emotions, modern liberals relentlessly undermine the most important principles on which our freedoms were founded," says Rossiter. "Like spoiled, angry children, they rebel against the normal responsibilities of adulthood and demand that a parental government meet their needs from cradle to grave."
I've seen some outrageous stuff from conservatives, but this has got to be one of the worst. We've said a lot a things about conservative ideas--that they're wrong, uncaring and criminal. But while we may have questioned the mental state of some conservative leaders, never, ever, have I heard conservative ideas themselves called mentally ill. Then again, unlike many on the right, we actually think that conservatives have the right to their views.
Looking at this, I have to wonder--does WND think it's "mentally ill" to call "he's a Muslim" an unconstitutional attempt to impose a religious test for the presidency? Does WND think it's "mentally ill" to note the implausible events that would have had to occur for Obama to have been born outside this country? Does WND think it's "mentally ill" to insist on the rule of law? Those are about the only things I can conclude from WND's promotion of this book.
