Mount Pleasant, S.C.- Youth service volunteers are needed during spring break to assist in the community outreach effort to help launch the new CARTA bus routes which will go into operation east of the Cooper on April 17.
Volunteers will help distribute posters and perform community outreach in Mt. Pleasant near the new 401 East Cooper Connector bus route. This will involve hanging doorknob bags with bus schedules and literature in area neighborhoods, getting merchants to allow posting of promotional posters and cards in shop windows, and a certain amount of fairly simple interaction with the general public and business owners.
Led by East Cooper Community Transit Advocate William Hamilton, volunteers will meet at Mount Pleasant Town Hall, Police Department, at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 19 and Thursday, April 21. They will travel to locations along the route where the work will be performed using the new CARTA 401 East Cooper Connector bus route. It is recommended that volunteers bring their own beverage and snack. Comfortable walking shoes and weather appropriate clothing will be needed. If necessary, there will be an unfinished effort or bad weather makeup day on Friday morning, April 22. Work each day will end at approximately 1 p.m.
Written documentation of hours of work performed for service programs will be provided.
Individuals interested in volunteering should contact William Hamilton at wjhamilton29464@gmail.com or call (843) 870-5299. Current information on the outreach effort and new route system can be found on the East Cooper CARTA Riders Facebook Group. Facebook event signups for both days are online. Activity will be coordinated and publicized using hash code #ecarta on Twitter.

I've been applying my training for political campaigns from Wellstone and DFA to this project. The entire effort is structures like a campaign. I'm wondering what I might be able to do with votebuilder. The local Demcratic Party has been supporting the effort, as have several local business associations and some prominent Republicans. Its nice to have the community working together. People need transit now and it shows.
