For those wondering what in the world the MCM is, here you go:
This is the gathering place for all military community members including veterans and their families. Our goal is two-fold: to publish diaries that help explain military life, especially family life, to civilians and to produce material that shows the military is not only culturally but politically diverse. Active duty family members are in a unique position, as we can freely express our political opinions whereas our active duty members are more likely to keep their mouths shut. That said, all opinions expressed in these diaries are not the opinions of our active duty family members.
Join us below the below the fold - suggested topic of discussion is Military Kids, in honor of the Month of the Military Child, but we're open to multiple threads of conversation around here!
First, a little housekeeping. Limelite left a great comment in our last open thread but it got lost to time and I didn't get a chance to see it until just recently. I wanted to share it with all of you:
Great Open Thread (0+ / 0-)
I bet your Followers will be looking for it on a regular basis (same day/time). This was very helpful and informative.
You have a worthy group that builds community, provides a forum (as well as voices), and honors our service men and women whom all of us owe, at the very least, our attention.
May I suggest that you make it a policy to add the tag "Military Community Members of Daily Kos" to all the diaries that are published or republished here? Yes, that means going back and editing a lot of tags!
Further, that ktsetsi should also add "Like It For Time" to all her diaries in addition to the universal Group Name tag. And that future series Editors add the name of their series to their tags in like manner?
Accurate and helpful tagging is probably the most important function of DK.

Limelite is right - an open thread with a regular time and day is a great idea. With the queue, we are now able to publish very easily, even when we can't be at the computer. I will start setting up a regularly established Open Thread and I love the idea of Monday mornings (Military Mondays... thanks to ktsetsi!). However, I would love to share the wealth and have some other folks host an open thread. Let me know in the comments below if you are interested.
Tagging is another issue all together - our diaries are already together in one nice spot - our group page, but people won't always go the page. Having our diaries tagged properly will help tons. I have been using the word 'military' and the word 'community' in tagging but it won't take that much longer to type the whole name (what was I thinking when I came up with such a long title?). So, it would help out if you can start tagging diaries with at least 'military' and 'community' and tagging with the entire name probably won't hurt.
So, the Month of the Military Child has begun and it started with less than a bang. Let's hope some personal diaries are able to stir up more discussion than the intro diary managed to do! How many of you are working on diaries to publish this month? Let us know in the comments below.
Other than that, the floor is open... questions, comments, tips, flames? I don't care, I just want to hear from somebody.
