Frustration.
People are fed up and angry. 98% of us are getting put on a spit and roasted. And we lash out. I realize it's getting to me as well.
Here's one of my little gems I lobbed at john de herrera last fall

Bull, followed by sh*t.
The convention will be covered 24/7 by F*X, with their patented "Fairly Unbalanced" reporting. By the end of the first week they'll have their viewers convinced the convention is trying to codify sharia law and make abortions mandatory. The corporatist will then be able to push anything and everything they want thru under the guise of "protecting America from " and then you can write America's obituary. Yes, our democracy is on life support right now, I don't want to hand the corporations and their cronies the plug and yell, "Pull!".
Those who forget the lessons of history are probably watching Glenn Beck.

Yeah, that really added to the discourse on here. Oh I can make a ton of excuses, "it was sarcastic" or "I'm a known jerk" or "we just got our asses handed to us by the Tea Party and this is your idea of what to do about it?". That quote, "This helps", should be used a lot more around here and all too often the answer is, "No, not really"
But the hate goes both ways. I wrote a diary the was unabashedly pro-nuke. Personally I don't think we have a hope of surviving the coming disasters of water, food, and energy sources without it. That's of course just my opinion and the tyranny of large numbers, like our nation consuming 100 quadrillion BTU's annually. But I got this lovely parting gift in response.
You're absolutely right, we need to build solar(0+ / 0-)
as fast as possible, as much as possible.
I don't disagree.
We also need to actually start capturing the easy efficiency gains -- I agree. (I think the best way to do it is to simply start shutting down plants and raising electric prices and watch the market do its magic. We've tried every other option -- every humane option.)
On the other hand, if you were trying to make some sort of pro-nuke argument, you can go straight to hell. It's not even possible to build nuclear fast enough to supply the power needs of the country, and it's completely straightforward to do so with solar.
No, I'm not excusing john for his hateful tirade. But I've been pissed off before, and in person I'm often not nearly as "controlled" as I am on this place. And right now I am pissed, I'm watching the nascent formation of a populist movement and I'm pissed. Not because of it but because of the concerted effort to kill it off. And what will happen when I "lash out" in anger and rip-off a series of "fuck you"'s to someone because of it?
Hell, I've probably pissed a few of you off just by writing this. So I'm taking a break from this place. I'll be back, probably early May.
