With pundits drooling over Ryan's "courage," why has no one from the Progressive Caucus stepped up with a counter proposal? Perhaps we need to write one for them. Initial thoughts below.
If we are going to have an argument about reducing deficits, why are the following items not front and center?
Reduce military spending, starting with redundant and unworkable weapons systems.
Restore fair, progressive tax rates. Change the tax code so GE cannot get away with what they have been getting away with. Add a surtax on incomes above $1M/yr. Add a tax on financial transactions.
End corporate welfare. No more subsidies for Big Ag and Big Oil. Put some of that money into development of renewables. Pass a carbon tax.
Single payer health insurance, at least as a state-level option.
Those are my four pillars; what would you put in? And who should propose it?
