So many of our readers are not familiar with the Bonus Army under the Hoover
years Starving, Hurting veterans who had served in WWI were promised a check.
Their sacrafice to a so called greatful nation was to be rewarded by one check.
Veterans brought their families and camped out in Washington and demanded
their due benefit only to met with Patton's army and a greedy president who said, "Go away or we will use our tanks and run you off. This is precisely what happened.
This is all shameful and disgraceful but FDR did not want to honor the check either but
instead of the military, he sent his wife to talk to the veterans who had come again
to Washington. FDR used his veto pen to say, I can't honor the bonus pay you were promised but the congress of that day overrode their Democratic President's veto.
Hoover was a SOB but Congress is where the real power is.
Where is the real power today and spines to stand against injustice? I said in another dairy via comment, they are all in Lobbyland and we are paying for the rides. We need
to quit waiting on a lobby paid spineless politican to do the right thing and get
the country on track. We need to all go to Washington, those of us that are able and
wait to see if our president will call the Military on us to make sure the part of the consitution that demands promoting the general welfare is upheld.
It is a sad day in any century or any decade or any breath that a government can
hold it's people hostage and reward a few and allow the rest to suffer. In Hoover's day, there was plenty of money but not for the majority of people. The rich had it all and horded it all.
People were made of tougher stuff in those days, IMO. They were willing to actually demand fair treatment , whether they received it or not The suffrage movement,
the civil rights movement, all had people willing to stand. This stuff with the idealogy is nothing new but quite bolder. Why is it so bold? IMO, the power folks know people are too busy with in debt toys and misplaced priorities to think about the General Welfare and our ability to do the right thing. They put words in pundits mouths and give corporations the same rights as the People and that makes us nothing more than
slaves living in a land of Bondage
The Bonus Army knew they had to make a stand. People die for what is right.
There is a war in the United States and it is being mapped by the tea party and big corporations. According to Wikepedia, veterans were killed, military families were hit with smoke bombs, women lost children due to miscarriages and the veterans had their belongings burned and still they stood and came back again and demanded what was right.
When and what point are you willing to make a stand?
