This is a quickie because it's nearly 2 am here and I just saw this Tweeted by our pal Brad Friedman. Link and go:
State Investigating Vote Irregularities in Waukesha County Going Back 5 Years
Oooooh. Let's take a quick peek and then bedtime for me. Maybe someone will see this for tomorrow AM.
Update: Thanks for rec'ing this! As I said in a comment, Wisconsin is where American democracy is being reborn. I honestly think that in 50 years or less, our kids/grandkids will be learning about the "Wisconsin Revolution" or something in their history classes.
Also, a good caveat from the comments.
Not a lot in Brad's article, but here's the meat:
the state's Government Accountability Board (the body which oversees elections in the state) can't understand County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus' explanations for the anomalous 2006 results either, where some 20,000 more votes were tallied than "ballots cast", according to her own reports.
Just in tonight from the Wisconsin State Journal: "State investigating vote irregularities in Waukesha County going back 5 years"
Other links on the article give peeks at Kathy Nickolaus's response (a few more syllables than "Whuut?" but not much more content) and other contextual stuff.
Here's the link to the Wisconsin State Journal story that Brad used for his post:
State investigating vote irregularities in Waukesha County going back 5 years
"This is part of what we're looking into. We have a lot of complaints," said Kevin Kennedy, the director and general counsel for GAB. "It's part of our investigation."
Kennedy said the board's current priority is determining the integrity of numbers reported in this spring's election but added that investigators are reviewing broader questions about Nickolaus and vote counting. Staff members from GAB have been in Waukesha County much of the week, and they were there again on Thursday, Kennedy said.
They're going back and looking at Van Hollen's bullshit 2006 "victory" with the 17,000+ "extra" votes that gave him the win. And there's something interesting about Nickolaus and "hand entered votes" she apparently entered.
Shenanigans. We can all hope that by this time next year, Nickolaus, Van Hollen, and the Fitzwalkers will all be safely behind bars, making Wisconsin that much safer for democracy.
